Here is the truth: your kidneys don't need cleansing just like a clogged drain needs to be
unclogged.
They are perfectly capable of filtering all your blood up to 40-50 times a day all on their
own, there is no buildup that should be washed away with vegetables.
The whole "kidney cleanse" concept is just another piece of wellness-industry marketing
nonsense.
What does make sense is the supporting of kidneys' functioning in the long term.
Here are the actual vegetables that support kidneys:
Red bell peppers: low on potassium (the point here is that damaged kidneys have
problems with filtering potassium), but rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and other
antioxidants like lycopene.
Cauliflower: low in potassium, high in vitamin C, folate, fiber and the alternative to other
higher-potassium vegetables in diet suitable for kidney problems.
Cabbage vitamins K, C, B6, fiber, but also low in both potassium and phosphorus that is
the important measure for people with kidney-related issues.
Garlic and onions the source of vitamins, but used more as a seasoning without the use
of salt (and here is the problem, because sodium is one of the substances that puts
stress on kidneys due to increased blood pressure).
Kale (with limitations) the highly nutritious vegetable, though high in potassium, and
thus the good choice only for reasonable consumption.
The key point that is far more important than any particular vegetable: the biggest
factors that help in maintaining kidney's health are proper water consumption (drinking
enough liquid regularly), proper control of blood pressure, blood sugar in case of
diabetes, and limitation in using NSAIDs (ibuprofen, for example), these four points will
help your kidneys far more than any vegetable in the world could.
And one more note that should be honestly mentioned: if you ask the question with the
concern about your kidney functioning, some kidney problems actually require limiting
certain vegetables (the high-potassium ones such as spinach, potatoes, tomatoes are
harmful to people with limited kidney functioning), so the recommendation "to eat more
vegetables" may be not applicable to every kidney condition.
