Best 5 Exercises for Heart Health:

    1. Cycling

According to a study by the British Medical Association, cycling regularly can substantially reduce your risk for coronary heart disease,.
The study reported that cycling 32 kilometers a week reduced the potential to develop
heart disease by at least 50%.

    2. Lane Swimming

Hit the pool for an exercise your heart and lungs will love.

Lane swimming will give you a higher return on your exercise time investment, according to Brendan J. Fox, who is a Toronto-based health and fitness expert.

    3. Running

A steady run is an excellent method to stay in shape, but running intervals will really
push your cardiovascular fitness to the next level.
Whether itÿs hills or sprints, all you need is 10 seconds at a time.
Keep the intensity at about 10 seconds, to make sure you go all out, and then begin with
4 10-second intervals per workout, then working your way up to 10.

    4. Strength Training

Strength training, or what is known as resistance training is another way to help improve
    heart health.
When combined with aerobics, doing strength training will help to lower bad cholesterol
    and raise good cholesterol.
Also, it can reduce your risk of having a stroke or heart attack.

Some examples of strength training exercises include the following:

    Doing sit-ups
    Doing squats
    Lifting free weights doing pushups
    Using resistance bands
The American Heart Association and CDC both suggest that you participate in strength
training exercises at least twice a week (on nonconsecutive days).

    Mike,

Best 5 Exercises for Heart Health:

Another one is square dancing...3 hours of dancing is like 6 miles
    of walking.

Of course, when you go out afterwards, and order a banana hot fudge
    royale sundae... <G>

You have to go through lessons to learn the moves for the particular
level, but wherever you go in the world, all the calls are in ENGLISH.
For dancers from areas outside of the US, it's the ONLY ENGLISH they
    know.

Forty years ago in central Arkansas, you could literally dance
every night of the week, if you wanted to. But like so many other
hobbies, folks have either quit, or passed away...and the young
people are more enamored in their tablets and smartphones, and
couldn't care less about the heritage, history, current state, or
    future, of any hobby.

My go to hobby is playing the organ. It doesn;t contribute to my fitness, but it helps my overall well-being.

Like square dancing, there are less and less people that own and play the organ. When I joined the local organ and keyboard club in 2015, there were probably 30 or so members, each playing pretty well. Now, the majority of them are deceased and they refuse to contribute anymore. Fancy that.

We meet on Thursday mornings. Today we had just 4 show up. I got a chance to play 4 songs. We only have an instructor once a month now and today was a day without one.

I suggested that we post an invitation to the community to join us. So far, no response.

    Mike,

My go to hobby is playing the organ. It doesn;t contribute to
my fitness, but it helps my overall well-being.

A former ham radio operator (he passed away a few years ago), was
an accomplished organist. His name was Bob Heil, who founded Heil
Sound, who created microphones for not only amateur radio operators,
but several of the rock bands. He was inducted into the Rock And Roll
Hall Of Fame shortly before his death a few years ago. His grandson
carries on the legacy of his grandfather's callsign, K9EID.

I got to meet Bob at a deal in Oklahoma City several years ago. He
was being introducted by "the king of ham radio contesters", Tim Duffy,
K3LR. When Tim went to hand the microphone to Bob, it quit working
    (no sound).

Bob said, "No worries...I'll fix this". He put the "broken mic" on
the table, opened up this small case, with one of his real nice mics,
hooked it up, and it worked.

He quipped "This happens everywhere I go"...and the entire room
    erupted in raucous laughter. <G>

Like square dancing, there are less and less people that own
and play the organ. When I joined the local organ and keyboard
club in 2015, there were probably 30 or so members, each

It takes a lot of talent to play the organ, with hands and feet.
For me, it's enough of an effort to play the radio. <G>

I've spend more time with the games on my smartphone than I have
    on the BBS.

We meet on Thursday mornings. Today we had just 4 show up. I

Bummer. As I've noted before, the youth of today, are so enamored
in their tablets and smartphones (their own little world), that they
have no interest in the heritage, history, current state, or future,
or any hobby or vocation. If their internet or phone goes out, they
are as helpless as a fish out of water.

I liked Sylvester the cat's definition of this "attack bird". He
was small, but he was "about as helpless as a porcupine in a nudist
    colony". <G>

I suggested that we post an invitation to the community to join
    us. So far, no response.

Life has gotten in the way for so much of us...that's the way it
is with me and the BBS lately, that it has been on auto-pilot for
    awhile.
