Has anyone ever used a portable a.c? I am looking at options over here. I could maybe use a window unit. It would have to be small. I read online, they can be bought, for less than 200 bucks. My roommate has a inside portable a.c, but I don't know if it even works. Hell a lot of things in the house doesn't work lol. We haven't had water in 3 weeks, for one thing. I'm hoping that portable a.c. works and he will let me use it. I mean why have something like that, in this type of weather, and not use it? It's either broke or he is too lazy to hook it up.

Look for used and one that was only used for 1 season so it's not yucky.

I just picked up an almost new 8,000 BTU window unit for $50 on Facebook marketplace and it kicks ass. Shop round, you can probably find a pretty good deal on a used one that will do the job for ya. Some people just want to get rid of the heavy object like that if they are moving.

They aren't bad, but they are far higher priced as portable units than window units of the same capacity.

My suggestion, pick a room to be home base, get a window unit, and build your summer life around that room until you can get things in order.

Also, that reminds me, I live in an apartment now, couldn't even install a window unit if I wanted to here due to the window design, and yet in storage I've got like 4 units.

So, there's at least that going for me in the future if I need such.... next time I'm in a normal house again.

I wish I had one of those units. Yeah this isn't my house. His heat and air doesn't work...so I got to figure something out. Are window units expensive?

Less expensive than a portable unit for the same cooling capability. You pay a premioum to be able to easily relocate portable units.

Yeah i seem that a window unit is like 150 to 200 bucks. A portable is between 300 and 600. They cook the same, but one goes in a window and the other has a pipe going out the window and you have to dump water from a pan because the water leaks out the bottom. So I take it wheels and a hose raises the price, which is stupid if you ask me. I think they should be around the same price.
