So I am not really a bbs user? Can someone explain how they work, and what kind of computer do they run on? What is the point of a bulletin board, no offense?

...My inferiority complexes aren't as good as yours.

It's just software that allows a computer to host open ports, on computers. These ports are opened by the bbs software, and when a user telnets to the address, the board software allows a connection. This allows users to use the bbs software. They run on all kinds of computers, even really old computers for the 80s and 90s. The point of a bbs, is ummm I don't even know. I just think it's cool to have it as a hobby and share knowledge about it with like minded people. It's like the first form of social media, even before the internet. That's the thing, boards have been running since the 70s. So it predates the internet, It's a precursor to the internet in many ways. People used them, because without boards, people couldn't share ideas, send emails, play games with others, real time chat, post local messages and messages all over the world, to share ideas and make friends. Now, these days, They are more of a hobby. People can do all that kind of stuff on the internet, so there is really now point to even have them. I guess now, it's about being in a walled garden away from big tech, and greed.

This is everything you need to know about BBSes and its history. This is a FANTASTIC watch! Take your time but watch all 8 segments. Trust me on this! You will want to become your own sysop afterwards. This will explain why we do what we do and still do. It's all about connection and community with other people.
